Rely Health

The Challenge

Rely Health uses AI to help patients navigate care after leaving the hospital. Because they handle sensitive patient data, security is foundational to the business. But selling into hospital systems introduced a level of scrutiny that standard compliance tools couldn’t satisfy.

  • Beyond table stakes: In healthcare, SOC 2 is just the starting point. Hospital CISOs routinely ask for detailed network diagrams, deeper penetration testing results, and clear proof that systems are secure in practice, not just on paper.
  • The “security by procedure” trap: Many compliance tools demonstrate that the right documents exist, but don’t prove that the system is actually protected against real-world threats.
  • Startup resource constraints: The engineering team was focused on building product. Traditional security approaches added layers of manual analysis and workflow friction that the team didn’t have capacity to absorb.
  • Heightened market skepticism: With a surge of poorly built AI products entering healthcare, hospital systems have become far more cautious. Rely Health needed to show they were fundamentally different from risky, under-secured AI vendors.

“SOC 2 alone is not enough anymore. We routinely get asked for security details like in-depth network diagrams and penetration testing results. Going beyond table stakes is more critical than ever.”

The Solution

Rely Health adopted Fencer to move beyond documentation-heavy compliance and toward continuous, provable security.

  • An integrated security co-pilot: Fencer integrates directly into GitHub and CI/CD, acting like an automated teammate that flags risky patterns and nudges developers before code reaches production.
  • Automated evidence generation: Fencer continuously produces infrastructure maps and security artifacts, eliminating the need to manually create diagrams or run ad hoc analyses for each hospital request.
  • Noise reduction and prioritization: With complex open-source dependency trees, Fencer helps the team focus on vulnerabilities that actually matter, cutting down on time spent triaging low-impact issues.
  • Continuous, real-world security: Instead of reactive checks, Fencer monitors AWS configurations and endpoints in the background, ensuring that changes don’t quietly introduce new risks.

“I think of Fencer as our security co-pilot. It’s like a colleague that nudges us when we’re writing risky code or alerts us when an infrastructure change might introduce a vulnerability.”

The Results

With Fencer in place, Rely Health can prove their security posture in ways that resonate with hospital buyers, accelerating their revenue.

  • Faster security questionnaire turnaround: What once took three to four days of manual analysis can now be answered by sharing a live, automated dashboard, dramatically speeding up sales cycles.
  • Enterprise contracts unlocked: Fencer provided the deep technical evidence required to satisfy lengthy hospital security reviews, making it possible to close deals that would otherwise be blocked.
  • Confidence to move fast: The engineering team can ship quickly knowing that static analysis, dependency checks, and vulnerability monitoring are always running in the background.
  • Clear differentiation in an AI-heavy market: Fencer helps Rely Health demonstrate that they are truly secure, not just compliant, setting them apart from other AI vendors competing for hospital trust.

“Fencer lets us respond to security questionnaires much faster. What used to take days of bespoke work is now an instant, automated view.”
